Materials & Craftsmanship
Thoughtfully chosen. Beautifully made.
Every piece of Tamarin Bay jewellery begins with carefully chosen materials and skilled craftsmanship. From colourful natural gemstones to warm gold finishes, we believe the beauty of a piece lies not only in how it looks, but in how it's made.
Some of our jewellery is handcrafted by skilled Fairtrade artisans in India, while selected pieces are handmade in our Surrey studio. Together, they reflect our commitment to thoughtful design, small-batch production and jewellery that's made to be worn and loved.
Gold Plating
We use 18k and 22k gold plating across our collections, chosen according to the design and desired finish. Our jewellery is crafted using a brass base and plated with either 1 or 2 microns of gold, depending on the piece. The specific gold finish and plating thickness are stated on each individual product page
What does "1 micron" or "2 microns" mean?
Gold plating is measured by its thickness.
- 1 micron offers a beautiful gold finish that is ideal for everyday jewellery when cared for properly.
- 2 microns provides a thicker layer of gold, offering greater durability and making it particularly suitable for pieces that are worn more frequently.
We choose the plating thickness that best suits each design, balancing beauty, durability and comfort.
Why brass?
Brass is widely used by fine and contemporary jewellery brands because it provides an excellent foundation for high-quality gold plating.
It's durable, allows beautiful detail to be achieved during production and creates jewellery that is comfortable to wear while maintaining a luxurious finish.
Natural gemstones
Many Tamarin Bay designs feature carefully selected natural gemstones, each chosen for its unique colour and character.
Because they are created by nature, no two stones are ever exactly alike. Small variations in shade, pattern and inclusions are part of what makes each piece individual.
We believe these natural differences are something to celebrate.
Our Gemstones
Colour has always been at the heart of Tamarin Bay.
Every gemstone is chosen for its natural beauty and the way it reflects the colours of the Indian Ocean. We select stones for their richness, individuality and timeless appeal, creating jewellery that feels vibrant, considered and connected to a real place.
As every gemstone is formed by nature, each one is unique. Variations in colour, pattern and inclusions are part of their natural beauty and make every piece one of a kind.
Lapis Lazuli
Known for its rich royal blue colour, lapis lazuli has been treasured for thousands of years. We love its deep ocean tones, which bring richness and depth to our collections and beautifully capture the darker blues of the Indian Ocean.
Amazonite
Amazonite is loved for its soft turquoise-green colour, reminiscent of calm tropical waters. Its fresh, uplifting tone pairs beautifully with gold and reflects the vibrant lagoons that inspire many of our designs.
Aquamarine
With its delicate sea-blue colour, aquamarine evokes crystal-clear water and endless summer skies. Elegant and understated, it brings a fresh lightness to our jewellery and is one of our favourite stones for everyday wear.
Turquoise
One of the world's most recognisable gemstones, turquoise has been admired for centuries for its vivid blue-green colour. At Tamarin Bay, it reflects the brilliant lagoons and sunlit coastlines of Mauritius, adding an unmistakable pop of colour to any piece.
White Jade
Smooth, luminous and beautifully understated, white jade brings a quiet elegance to our collections. Its soft, creamy tones provide a fresh contrast to vibrant gemstones and warm gold, creating pieces that feel timeless and effortless.
Yellow Jade
Warm, sunny and full of life, yellow jade reflects the golden light that inspired our Soleil Collection. Its rich honey tones pair beautifully with gold, bringing warmth and optimism to every design.
Kunzite
Kunzite is admired for its delicate blush pink and soft lilac hues. Its subtle colour adds a gentle femininity to our jewellery and complements the brighter blues and greens found throughout the collection.
Chrysoprase
With its vibrant apple-green colour, chrysoprase reflects lush tropical landscapes and fresh island foliage. Its vivid tones bring energy and brightness, making it one of the most distinctive gemstones in the Tamarin Bay palette.
Apatite
Apatite is known for its striking shades of vivid blue and teal, echoing the changing colours of the sea. Its remarkable intensity makes it a beautiful accent stone, adding depth and vibrancy to our ocean-inspired designs.
Natural Shell
Each shell is naturally unique, with its own markings, colours and subtle variations. Chosen for its organic beauty, shell brings texture and a sense of the shoreline to our jewellery, reflecting days spent exploring the beaches of Mauritius.
A Note on Natural Materials
Many of our gemstones and shells are natural materials, which means no two pieces will ever be exactly alike. Slight variations in colour, shape and pattern are part of what makes every piece unique and should be celebrated as a reflection of nature's craftsmanship.
